In this article I will cover the most common types of Cockatiel and the rarest type of Cockatiel.
Normal Grey

This is the most common type by far and would be the variety you would see in the wild. The male has a yellow face and part of the crest. The underside of his tail is black. The female how ever has duller face markings and the underside of her tail is barred with grey and yellow. The male chicks when they hatch look the same as the female but their markings will change after there first molt.
Lutino

The Lutino are mainly yellow in colour with mostly white wings. They are sex-linked recessive* with red eyes. Are common amongst bird fanciers due to their coloration. There is no visible difference between the males and females.
*Sex recessive means that the bird will always be a male/female from one individual pair.
Normal Pearl

Normal Pearl Cockatiels get there name from the spots that are on their wings. Very pretty Cockatiels. Mostly grey with a bit of yellow on the head and some white on the wings. After the first molt the males lose the 'pearly' effect on there wings.
White-faced

Hence their name these birds have a White-face. There are various different types of White-faced such as White-faced Pearl, Pied and Normal. Each of the parents has to have a White-faced gene in them to have a White-faced. But these birds are surprisingly popular despite their dull colourings.
Albino

These beautiful birds are rare but very popular. All white with the red eyes. The females carry some barring on the tales but the males don't. The pure white cockatiels without red eyes are called White-faced Lutino's.
Pastel-faced

Pastel-faced Cockatiels are one of the rarest Cockatiels. There are various types of them such as Pastel-faced Pied and Pastel-faced Normal. They are sometimes known as Yellow-cheeked Cockatiels. popular due to their rarity and colourful appearing.
